Teleconferencing
Because of the vast distances involved in delivering comprehensive Primary Healthcare services to our clients over such a massive distance, our primary healthcare staff keep in constant contact via phone and email.
In the last few years, teleconferencing has allowed us to stay in contact on a more personal level, and has facilitated a great leap forward in staff collaboration and sharing of knowledge between health centre staff.
Collaborative Meetings
Collaboratives
On Friday mornings, Katherine based primary healthcare staff (Usually Program Coordinators, Primary Healthcare Director, Senior Medical Officer, Primary Healthcare Manager and Clinical Quality Manager) meet in our Training Room and conduct a Collaboratives meeting with all staff members in our remote health centres.
Our remote staff usually close the clinic (unless in case of an emergency) for this time, and this allows staff to collaborate.
The topics of discussion in these meetings are usually:
- Best Practice and updates to best practice methodology for Aboriginal Health
- Updates on health alerts for the region (ie Swine Flu, Seasonal Flu, Insect Borne Virus’)
- Program Coordinator advice, such as health promotion, child health etc
- Learning Discussions (spotting illness, warning signs etc)
- Speaking effectively with patients
- Communicating any system updates
- Ensuring that bush staff are receiving the best possible support to perform their role.
- Voicing of concerns or complaints.
- Communicating community details (ie Sorry Business, Ceremony, Community Flooded during wet season etc)
- any other such issues that arise regarding the performing of primary health care
