Mobile Team Tackles River Crossing This year, the Mobile Health Team has taken delivery of the new Blue KWHB Troop Carrier in order to provide better Primary HealthCare services to the many remote communities and stations in the Katherine West Region. The new configuration of the troop carrier has allowed greater speed in setting up, and increased the ease of locating materials and equipment.

In 2008/2009, we had both a male and female RAN providing healthcare services, which resulted in a more balanced mobile service. As a great deal of mobile unit work was being done on station properties, there are more male workers stationed there than women. However in previous years, where two Female RANs have operated the Mobile Unit, many men were less forthcoming in discussing health issues, which was reflected in the figures. In 2008/2009, many more men saw the Male nurse, (roughly 2 out of 3 patients) which was considered to be an achievement by all remote communities and stations. Mobile Unit Camping the Night

This year we have also been fortunate to have relative stability in mobile team staffing, which has been commented on positively by our community members who gain trust at seeing familiar faces.

The mobile team worked on two campdrafts, even resorting to veterinary work on two injured horses.  The Mobile Unit also had the pleasure of being involved in numerous Health Promotion events this year in many of our communities.

In the coming year, continued emphasis will be placed on Health Promotion, particularly in relation to Alcohol and Smoking amongst station workers. There are also many patients with undiagnosed Chronic Disease, and this will be followed up on in a vigorous manner.
