Program Literature: Child Health Program – Katherine West Health Board
The early years is a crucial time for child growth and development. As children are growing, anything that interferes with this growth or development may impact the rest of their lives. Therefore it is imperative that children are regularly assessed and their parents/carers are regularly supported in their parenting practices. Through this process, child growth can be monitored and problems can be identified early, with strategies put in place to ensure the best outcome for the child and their family.
The Katherine West Health Board Child Health Program is delivered by staff in each of the health centres, with the support of the Child Health Program Coordinator based in Katherine, to ensure that every child has the opportunity to reach their growth and developmental potential.
The Child Health Program Consists of the following:
- monitoring the health, growth and development of all children within our region through regular child health screening and surveillance,
- promoting good nutrition through education and health promotion activities,
- supporting parents/carers in their parenting practices, and
- identifying issues and the implementation of early intervention strategies.
